I feel like that’s one of those rhetorical questions - like, why would you NOT want to make moolah from YouTube? Of course you do! Right?

When I started on YouTube in 2016, I legit NEVER dreamed that YouTube would actually BECOME the business/job and I sure never dreamed that I would have a silver play button (100,000 subscribers) in my possession! Like, y’all, it’s just sitting here on my shelf because it’s MINE because I somehow got 100,000 people to subscribe to my little ol’ YouTube channel…what?!?

But for real, I never thought that YouTube would be the MAIN part of my biz

• The place where MOST people find me
• The place where most of my leads and sales come from
• The place that PAYS me to create content
• The place where brands find me and want me to promote their products or pay me to speak at their conferences
• The place where I can shine and stand out from everyone else.

NEVER.

My first video was put on YouTube ONLY because I was creating a blog post that needed visuals and a video was going to be more helpful than photos. That was it.

Then, I was more consistent with it and started showing my face more to HELP THE SEO OF MY BLOG POSTS - not to grow on YouTube.

I wasn’t doing anything right - I wasn’t optimizing YouTube, the videos weren’t the priority, the quality was bad, I didn’t care about YouTube at all.

Until one day when I logged in in the summer of 2017 and saw that I had almost 500 subscribers and it literally blew my mind - like, HOW?!? I wasn’t promoting my channel, I wasn’t sending people there (I was sending them to the blog post), I didn’t care about YouTube, so having nearly 500 subscribers was BANANAS.

After that, while I was putting more effort into the channel than I ever had before, it still wasn’t my priority, my priority was still my blog and Pinterest and Google.

But then, I was consistently making $1,000/month from adsense, I had videos going viral, I was being asked to speak at conferences because of my channel, I was making over $10k/mo passively from affiliates, courses, and digital products that I was promoting on YouTube and I realized that YouTube WAS the job.

Over the last few years, I’ve leaned more and more into being a creator and really understanding that YouTube is the vehicle that sells everything for me AND that I LOVE to create videos AND they pay me to do that so, like, being a creator is pretty darn cool.
